Slumdog Millionare

After much hype given to the movie with 10 oscars, I decided to watch slumdog. Almost everyone by now knows about the movie, story etc. the typical rags to riches story.

For a difference this movie although on India and many actors are from India still is made by a westerner who visualizes the county as a backward slum. This is how the westerners would like to see this country and would never believe if you were to say that the country is forward in many ways.

Anyway the point here is that the movie was made in such a way so as to please the western audience and hence it got so many awards. The fact it is only for western audience is evident by the fact that the movie in India was released after almost a month compared to the western countries. The producers had expected that the movie wont be taken well inside this country and purposely avoided releasing it here earlier.

If anyone in India were to produce a movie and show that the western countries are backward then it would be taken very well and would win many awards as well... ;)

Indiana Jones - cristal skull

Need to get into the habit of writing blogs frequently. Another movie I watched recently was Indiana Jones. After a lot of friends saying its a good movie I thought of watching this. If you want to watch a movie its always better to watch it in the first week itself.

The movie is good even though its slow moving and kinda childish story, or rather I would say outdated. If the same was released about 10 years back it would have been greatly appreciated. I felt the first half, was tooo boring. The second half makes up for it though. Nothing much in the story. Direction and Acting is ok. Overall this is not bad. Worth watching once...

vantage point

Long time since I wrote any blog. Its a long time since I watched any movie worth a blog. Vantage point is a good movie, especially I liked the way it was narrated. It shows 5 different views of a single murder sequence and each time explaining a little further in the story. Although I liked the direction, I found the movie lacking in the story line. Its only the direction which makes it watchable, else it would have been a boring movie. It could have been made much better...

300

Long awaited movie review after a long time :)

This is an all out war story. This is acutally a story book adaptation. It is a story about a group of 300 people fight aganist an army of a few lakhs who have come to invade their country. Wonderful computer graphics makes the movie worth the money. Many people liked the movie but somehow I felt there was something missing in it.

First of all the movie is narrated in a story book style. Some may like this as it is different from the normal way the movie is presented. In a movie you are supposed to show the actions that you try to imagine in a book, which is the basic difference between a book and a movie. You repeat the same dialogs as in the book is something absurd. Just imagine this when the war is going on and the son of the captain dies you hear a background dialog saying " the way in which the captain was fighting after seeing his dead son was something even the enemy feared". The same could have been shown in the form of actions... the enemy army being shown with fear in their eyes after looking at the captain's fury.

The war scenes are fantanstic. But the same being repeated for a long time is what I felt was boring. At any point of time you dont feel attached to the movie. Basically the fact that 300 people are sacrificing their lives for their country isnt captured properly. For those who appreciate the special effects in the movie may like it. Overall its a movie watchable but could have been made much better.

Blood diamond

One of the very good movies that I have watched in recent times. The story is set in sierra leaon. This is a real life story of that country that touches the heart. The movie is very well directed and some excellent performances by the actors.

The country has large deposits of diamond. There exist no proper government control. Most of the parts of the country is controlled by the rebels who smuggle the diamonds to the neighbouring country and make money. These rebels make use of the poor people of the country for mining and are treated in very inhuman conditions. The story is narrated by a english journalist, who wants to expose the state of the country to the western world; a diamond smuggler and a normal civilian of the country, who by luck discovers a big diamond.

This may sound like a normal movie but I particularly like the way its directed which makes you think, are the diamonds really worth buying. Its coz of you so many people die...

There is a mention of India in the movie. They have mentioned India as the place where the smuggled diamonds are polished and mixed with other diamonds. I couldnt understand why India had to be drawn into all this. India is still a good market for diamonds. Maybe its time we stopped buyin diamonds and also all other precious stones...
